The continued celebration of Southend’s city status took us on a day trip to its museums. Celebrating the rich history and cultural diversity on our doorstep, we filmed at multiple historic sites and galleries.
For the film, we wanted to showcase the rich and vibrant history of the Southend area, and what better way to start than with some amazing black and white archive photos from times gone by.
At Southend Central Museum, we got exclusive access to the artifacts on display in the two major exhibitions: The Prittlewell Princely Burial and Wunderkammer. To capture these, we used our motion control slider set-up to create smooth movements around the delicate and intricate items, to really highlight and show them off.
We then got to explore Southchurch Hall Gardens, Prittlewell Priory and the Beecroft gallery and see the work of the conservator teams. This allowed us to produce a wealth of supporting footage from the range of historical sites, which along with archive material and interview content from history professionals really promote the amazing features of the museums.
Along with our official City Status video, this film premiered at the official ceremony of Southend’s City Status and we hope that it encourages the local community to get out and about and explore the exciting history that’s on our doorstep.
